Hello there and welcome back to The David Madow Lifestyle Show! This is the show where I help you live stronger, thinner, healthier, happier, and a lot more. I am in my outdoor studio as you can probably tell. There’s like a low flying helicopter. You guys know that I attract noise. I just attract craziness.
Be sure to follow my LIVE daily broadcasts on Periscope atwww.periscope.tv/davidmadow.
I came outside to record this and it’s really quiet in this setting. I live in a rural area. I’m gonna let this thing keep going because it is just par for the course. Basically nobody is around and of course, as soon as I press the record button, all of a sudden a low flying helicopter decides to come by.
For those of you who have been with me for a while, you know that wherever I go to record I can find the furthest area out in a parking lot and I start to record and a landscape crew shows up. It’s bizarre! I am kind of glad it happened today because it proves that I record in real time. I don’t know what’s gonna happen. I am not scripted. I’ve got a great show for you today by the way. But sometimes things happen on the show and we just let them go.
The helicopter is gone, who knows whether it will come back. If you’re a new listener, welcome to the craziness! If you’re an old listener or friend and I don’t mean by chronologic age, but if you’ve been with me for a while and you know me, it’s always good to have you back!
This is going to be a great episode. I want to also let you know that this show is not scripted. When I press record, I know basically what I am going to say but I don’t have a script. I can go off on any tangent that I want. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t. It’s really strange. Sometimes I will end a show and I will say to myself “Dave, it was alright. You can let it go. No need to re-record it. But it wasn’t really your best.”
I really want every show to be my best. But that is impossible. I am not perfect. I think they are all really good, don’t get me wrong. A couple weeks ago you probably heard the show where I talked about running the Hunky Dory Marathon in Colorado. When I finished recording that, I kind of thought that it was alright. I might go back and re-record it. But I didn’t. I published it. And when I listened to it again after it was released a week or so ago, it was one of my favorite ones ever. And it got a ton of listens and a ton of shares so something must have been right with it. I had a lot of people tell me and I agree that it was one of the best ones I have recorded in a long time. Listen to Episode #151 now.
Before I get into the main topic I want to also share something with you. For those of you that know me, you know I am not a jewelry person. I don’t wear necklaces or rings or fancy things. But lately there are two things that I wear. On my left hand is a Fitbit. I love this Fitbit. I have had it for several months now. I love it. It tracks everything that I do including number of steps per day. Already today at mid-day I am up to 16,600 steps which is not bad. I did a 7 mile run this morning which definitely helps. It gets me to understand how I am moving my body and what my heart rate is. It does a lot of other things that I look at sometimes like sleep. It’s been an invaluable tool in keeping me in the best physical shape possible.
The world is just not a peaceful place anymore. There’s always some kind of noise or interruption. That’s why I love meditation. I love running on a quiet country road. It goes to show that when you want peace and quiet, like when you’re recording a podcast, noise just shows up. I don’t know why. Those of you who have been to my house know it’s in the sticks in horse country. There’s nothing out here. And I don’t know why a helicopter would all of a sudden choose to circle around here. I hope there’s nothing bad going on.
I hope I haven’t lost you. But life is full of interruptions and craziness. When we do Yoga and meditate my good friend and Yoga instructor has always told me that no matter what you try to do life is always full of interruptions. What you have to do is to take those interruptions and deal with them. Nothing is perfect in life and things happen. Life is unpredictable as well.
Again, on my right hand I wear 3 beaded bracelets. I got these bracelets from a friend of mine who makes these by hand in New York. His name is Dezmond. I met Dezmond online. He does a lot of Periscope broadcasting and I have met him personally several times. I bought some bracelets from him and I have been wearing them ever since. The only time I ever take them off is when I run or exercise or bathe. But otherwise they are on my wrist all the time. I believe they give me a special type of energy. I am not sure. You know how some people wear crystals or beads. Ever since I have had these beads on, not only do they look really cool, but I just feel like they give me some type of real positive energy. I learned how to get rid of the negativity more. And when you get rid of the negativity, you free up room in your life for more positive people to come into your life. Do beaded bracelets do that? I’m not going to say. I don’t know. It’s coincidental that ever since I have been wearing these I feel a lot of positivity around me. I suggest you check these out. They are very inexpensive. Dez does a great job. He does them by hand. If you go to his website www.beadsbydez.com. Take a look around. There’s a lot of different types. I kind of wear pretty simple small beads that are dark colored. I wear them 3 at a time. I just feel that there is something magical about the number 3. If you like what you see, feel free to use an offer code DAVE. He is giving this to my listeners and he will give you totally free shipping. These are already very reasonably priced and when you include free shipping it was kind of like the icing on the cake. Let me know what you think. Feel free to send me pictures with your beaded bracelets. My photo is below!
I have a friend named Mike. Mike is probably listening to this right now because he is a faithful listener to The David Madow Lifestyle Show. He’s an incredibly good friend of mine and we’ve been friends for many many years. And several times a year we try to get together whether it’s for a long weekend if we’re traveling or sometimes we’ll just make it a point to put something on the calendar.
So about a year ago we decided to hang out for a long weekend. So we went on Airbnb and this guy was renting out his home for the weekend and it was very reasonably priced. It was a beautiful weekend, it was really cool. But when the guy went to meet us to give us the keys. Somehow we got on a conversation and he asked me what I did. I told him about my podcast. He told me that he would not only check it out but he was also going to share it with his wife who happens to be an author. He shared it with her and she apparently like it and we started following each other on social media sites and she started following my podcast. She even wrote it up in a blog she has. A month or two ago I saw that she came out with a brand new book. Her name is Victoria Fedden. Her book is called This is Not My Beautiful Life. So I messaged Victoria and said, “Hey Victoria, his looks pretty cool but is this something that I would like.” She responded “Yeah absolutely!”
I bought the book and downloaded it on Kindle and I started reading it. It was incredible on 2 levels. Number one, when I first started reading it, from the first chapter, maybe even the first page or two, something happened. I’m not going to tell you too much about it but there was a knock on the door. She was at her parent’s house and she was 9 months pregnant. The doorbell rang and she answered the door at her parent’s house in her pajamas. I am not going to tell you who was at the door but the people who were at the door would go on to change her life and her family’s life forever. It was very strange. I got sucked into reading this thing. And I mean that in a good way. I could not put it down. I am not a real reader meaning that I typically download books on self-help, books on health, hiking, running, skiing, and all kinds of things like that. But I got into this thing and couldn’t put it down. I wanted there to be more. I was reading the back page and the message from the publisher. I kept thinking it can’t be over. I wanted more. It’s unbelievable. But on another level, a lot of the story that Victoria is talking about takes place in the house that I stayed in. The things going on in her house and in her neighborhood, I experienced these things. It was unreal or maybe surreal. I don’t really know the difference between the two. But it was weird having experienced part of this story and staying in this house. I give this book my highest recommendation. It doesn’t matter if you’re a reader, not a reader, a casual reader, a sometimes reader, I want you to get this book. Full disclosure I am an Amazon affiliate and do get a tiny amount if you purchase the book using the link on my website. I’m not saying this because I get some kind of commission. I am saying this because I promise you this book could be life-changing for you. There are times where you will be crying, there are times where you will be scared, but the overall message of the book is invaluable.
Before I leave you today, I’ve got a surprise for you. Since you’ve listened to the end and I appreciate that, I’ve got a guest that’s coming on my show next week. We’re going to spend the entire show talking about something incredible. The guest happens to be the author of the book This is Not My Beautiful Life. Victoria Fadden the author of the book will be on next week. And I am going to ask her some questions. That’s all I am going to tell you right now. This will be a must listen podcast. Especially if you have this book and you started it. I’m going to be very careful not to put any spoilers in. You can listen even if you have not finished the book yet or have not started it. But Victoria will be on from her home in South Florida. Don’t miss the next episode!
Until next week! I pray that there are no helicopters flying over wherever I am or no landscape crews 🙂
