Below, Dr. Dave shares five habits that he performs every day that have changed his life!
1) You MUST Eat Right
What you put into your body is really important for your health, well-being, and psyche. Too many of us have put junk into our bodies. Things like processed foods do not help our bodies and do not help us to maintain our health. Get rid of the junk. Sugars, oils, and potentially even animal products have the ability to damage to body. You have to make sure you are fueling your body properly. Dr. Dave finds that a whole food plant-based diet is best for your health. One of the most commons myths about veganism is that vegans are nutrient deficient. Dr. Dave is asked all the time “Where do you get your protein?” Plants can provide all the protein (and other nutrients) that are needed for a healthy diet. Going plant-based is by far one of the best things that Dr. Dave has ever done. In addition to eating, you should also be concerned about what you are drinking. Water is the absolute best beverage to consume. Stay away from sweet drinks such as soda, coffee, sweetened tea, and alcohol. One of Dr. Dave’s favorite ways to stay healthy is by “juicing”. He blends organic fruits and vegetables such as kale, celery, beets, carrots, spinach, apples, and strawberries with things like almond milk, almonds, and flax seed into a delicious and nutritious drink. Dr. Dave recommends the NutriBullet blender system to make great juice drinks. As a vegan, Dr. Dave does not need to count calories to maintain his optimum weight. When you are eating healthy your body will balance itself.
2) Move Your Body
It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant but you have to get moving. Walking, biking, or even playing at the playground are great types of exercise. Dr. Dave loves to run, backpack, and ski. You don’t have to do it everyday but you do have to get up and get moving on a regular basis. Take advantage of opportunities to exercise. For example, if you are going shopping, park as far away as possible so that you can get in a few minutes of walking. Don’t take elevators unless you are going up 10 or more floors. Don’t stand on escalators, instead walk up or down the steps. Moving your body is very important. Dr. Dave even loves to workout at home by doing exercises such as pull-ups, push ups, and squats. The possibilities are endless. Figure out what you like to do and keep doing it, and vary as much as you can. Never “leave the playground”. No matter how old you are get out there and do something fun!
Meditation is one of the most powerful things that you can do! Turn off all technology including phones and computers. Sit still in a quiet room and concentrate only on the slow rhythm of your breathing – in and out – taking a pause between breaths. If you do this for even 5 to 10 minutes per day, you will begin to see tremendous differences in your life. Meditation can keep you young. It will keep you calm and healthy. There are numerous health benefits to meditation – too many to list in this report. Try it. You won’t regret it!
If you are holding in anger or you’re holding a grudge against someone or something you hate, let it go! Everyone has been there. But it doesn’t work and it doesn’t do you any good.
Be honest with yourself. Are you happy? Are you living your life the way you want to live it? Or is there is voice inside your head or is your gut saying to you often that something is just not right? Whether it be a relationship or a job. Trust your gut. You are the only one the knows if you are happy or not. You know right now if you are happy whether you choose to changes things is a different story. It is up to you to make the change. Do the right thing that’s best for you. Live the life that you dream about, the life that you CAN achieve. Sometimes we are afraid what might be on the other side, so we stick with what is comfortable. If you watch this show or listen to it, take some time to think about what you can do to change your life today to make yourself happier. Dr. Dave is the guiding force but you know the answer. Take the step to become happier!
